Alabama US Senate race: Political outsider leads Trump-endorsed candidate, new poll shows
The Alabama Poll, operated by Michael Lowry, surveyed likely Republican runoff voters.
The race for Alabama’s open U.S. Senate seat is heating up, with a new survey placing political newcomer and former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson at the front of the pack.
New Data in the Runoff
The Alabama Poll, conducted by Michael Lowry, shows Hudson holding a significant advantage among likely Republican runoff voters. According to the data, Hudson sits at 49%, while U.S. Rep. Barry Moore follows with 39%.
In his polling memo, Lowry noted that Hudson currently holds the momentum, reiterating previous insights shared with 205focus.com regarding the unpredictability of this contest. Lowry maintains that the candidate who secures the second-place spot in a primary remains in a prime position to flip the outcome during a runoff.
Campaign Perspectives
When reached for comment by 205focus.com, a spokesperson for the Hudson campaign expressed appreciation for the polling data, though emphasized that the ultimate result is determined at the ballot box. "I’m encouraged by the recent polling, but the only poll that matters is the one that closes at 7 PM on June 16th," the spokesperson stated. The campaign for Moore declined to offer a comment.
The political landscape remains fluid, especially considering an earlier poll conducted by Moore supporters prior to the primary, which previously projected Moore to hold a majority of voter support.
Closing the Gap
With the primary now in the rearview, both campaigns have spent the last two weeks aggressively targeting voters across the state. A major objective for both candidates has been capturing the support of those who backed Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall, who finished in third place.
The most recent Alabama Poll surveyed 600 likely Republican runoff voters via phone and text on May 28. The results include a margin of error of plus or minus 4% at a 95% confidence interval.
